K-12 Food Rescue programs are a joint cooperative venture between local schools, local food pantries/qualified caring agencies, and local health departments.  40% of food produced in the U.S. is wasted, including 1 billion food items annually from U.S. schools, while 50 million Americans are food insecure.

Virginia Shuman Young launched its own Food Rescue Program in December 2018.   So far we’ve rescued approximately 20,000 food items, which is equivalent to 4,000 meals, and 2,500 Lbs of Carbon Dioxide equivalent reduced from the environment.

If you would like to participate in this amazing program, please contact Rafaela Navarra at (954) 294-3834 or via email nenaro@yahoo.com for volunteering opportunities. The program runs daily from 11:40am to 1:50pm. We offer flexible volunteering opportunities; weekly, biweekly or as little as once a month. Thank you!
